Hard rain, good training.

The last few days have been pretty superb. We had some pretty intense rain and wind and escaped Irene with no issues besides 48hrs without internet, but we were really really lucky. Surrounding towns got hit pretty hard with lots of flooding and washed out roads. I think a service project is in the works for a day next week where campus will load up in the vans to go help in flood relief in Waterbury. It should be a great opportunity for community service.

The weather has been great since and we’ve taken advantage of it with some great workouts. We’ve had a couple of AM strength and mobility sessions and have filled the afternoons with some pretty productive work. Tuesday, we did 3x9ish minutes of moosehoofing intervals at threshold (hard), and they were a great workout- they were a lot more fun than I thought they would be! We followed with a trail run through the woods and over some pretty gorgeous fields. yesterday afternoon we hit the field for some speed work, and while none of the drills were long, we did lots of reps and I was definitely feeling pretty tired by the end.  This afternoon we drove out to the lake for an easy distance ski (13mi). The road we were on had some nice rolling terrain that was perfect for some V2 alternate practice, and had a few apple trees that were perfect for mid-ski munching. We followed with a jump into Willoughby- the rock was higher than I thought!

One of the greatest things about being here is having training partners. Today on our ski, all of the girls stuck together and took turns leading. It is always good to get behind someone new and mimic their technique for a little. We’ve also been lucky enough to have some guests joining us for some training sessions. Sam Tarling, a BMA alum, member of the Dartmouth ski team and 2011 NCAA Skate champion, was around this week, and Simi Hamilton a Middlebury grad, US Ski Team member and 2010 Olympian is going to be around for a couple of days. So that’s pretty cool!

Tomorrow we have some double pole strength in the morning and then we should have a pretty restful weekend. 17 days until Sun Valley!!!
Cheers,
Emilie
